Cal Fire has been unwilling to report its audit outcomes data to GAFSC. It is GAFSC’s responsibility along with Alpine Fire Protection District to identify and mitigate defensible space issues within Greater Alpine. Cal Fire’s methodology is to employ retired fire-fighting personnel to audit homeowner properties and assess their defensible spaces.

There is a chance that one of Alpine’s premier community programs is at risk. Changes to the fire prevention funding process have been made unilaterally by Cal Fire without either GAFSC’s consent or its true input. These changes will now jeopardize most of GAFSC’s funding.
